The Australian Hay Mini Nationals Show and Shine is arguably the biggest and best annual Mini show and shine in Australia. There are regularly in excess of 100 Minis from all around the country and some of them are pretty much the finest examples around!
The Show and Shine is divided into six categories
-Best original Morris
-Best modified Morris
-Best original Leyland
-Best modified Leyland
-Best BMW / Rover Mini
-Best derivative (Mokes and Gems etc)
There is also the very sort-after peoples choice award.
Before the judging gets underway there is a parade of Minis down the main street of Hay. The line often fills both sides of the road from one end of town to the other! Definitely a spectacular sight!
On arrival at the judging and display area, (Moppett street Hay) owners and drivers can fill out their entry forms, and the judging will get underway.
Judging is carried out by several judges from all clubs participating. Each judge is assigned a category and a partner judge. Each judge will assess the cars in their category, and then those in his or her partners category. Scores will be added together and then divided by 2 to give the final results for both of the categories. This ensures a level playing field for all participants!
The winner of each category will receive a trophy at the Sunday night presentation party, and will also receive 1 point toward the GBS ‘best club’ award.
All cars taking part in the parade will be required to assemble in the swimming pool car park, at the northern end of Lachlan Street. It is envisaged that each club will have a “lead club car” suitably decorated and identifying the club. All vehicles should report to the form-up area by 10.40am. Directly behind the “lead club car” will be all the Club’s Best Presented Cars, followed by the other members’ cars. There is no limit to the number of cars from any one club in the parade, nor for the Best Presented Cars.
ALL CARS entered in the Best Presented Cars event MUST BE DRIVEN in the Parade.
The event will be held on Moppett Street (closed road, bitumen surface). Entries are open to all Mini Club members .
All entries must be on the official entry form which will be available on the day. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any vehicle in an EXTREMELY poor appearance.
Entries will be accepted on the day and close at 12noon.
Judges will be scoring vehicles in each category in the following areas:
(a) Exterior, including bright work 100 pts
(b) Interior 100 pts
(c) Under bonnet 100 pts
(d) Boot 100 pts
(e) Under body, wheels and tyres 100 pts
In the “ORIGINAL” category there will be no points deducted for non-original items where the STYLE OF THESE ITEMS is in keeping with the style of the car or is a period accessory. This allowance is made to encourage owners of Minis with minor modifications to compete in the original category.
Awards will be presented at the Presentation Party.
Entrants have total responsibility for the security of their vehicle at all times. The organisers will not accept any liability in this matter.
It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure their vehicle is entered in the correct category. Judging will be by a panel consisting of a suitable person as nominated by each club. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the results.
